The Product Image Mistakes Killing Your Amazon CTR
February 14, 2025 · 5 min read
Your main image does one job: earn the click. Everything else on the listing only matters once that happens. We review a lot of underperforming listings, and the same handful of mistakes show up again and again.
Product too small in the frame, so it disappears at thumbnail size. Background clutter that Amazon's own guidelines don't allow (and that costs you trust even when it slips through). Lighting that makes the product look duller or smaller than it is in person.
Missing scale cues, so a shopper cannot tell if what they are looking at is a keychain or a lunchbox. No lifestyle or in-use shot in the secondary images, leaving buyers to imagine the product in their life instead of showing them.
None of these are hard to fix once you know to look for them. A short reshoot with the right lighting, framing, and a couple of lifestyle angles is usually the single highest-leverage change you can make to a listing that's getting traffic but not converting it.
